Cupping Therapy in Houston, TX

At Jennifer Klein Physical Therapy, we know that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why we offer cupping therapy as part of our personalized care approach; because sometimes, what your body needs most is a different kind of relief.

Cupping has been used for thousands of years across cultures, and for good reason. By creating gentle suction on the skin, this technique helps increase blood flow; enhancing viscosity and elasticity of tissue layers, which in turn, reduces muscle tension and promotes deep, restorative healing. Whether you’re managing chronic pain or just feeling like something’s “off,” cupping might be the missing puzzle piece in your recovery journey. We’re here to guide you through it.

Did you know cupping serves as a great precursor to needling?

Types of Cupping We Offer

We don’t believe in cookie-cutter care, which is why we offer a few different styles of cupping to suit your unique needs. At your first session, we’ll talk through your goals and choose the method that fits best.

Performing cupping therapy
  • Dry Cupping is our go-to for improving circulation and easing muscle tension without any incisions. It’s great for stubborn knots and tightness.

  • Gliding Cupping uses oil to gently move the cups across your skin, creating a deep-tissue massage effect that many of our clients find deeply soothing.

  • Facial Cupping is a lighter approach that can help with sinus pressure, jaw tension, and even skin tone.

What Cupping Can Help With

While cupping might seem simple, it can have a big ripple effect on your health and comfort. We often use it as part of a larger treatment plan, especially when pain or inflammation is getting in the way of your movement or well-being.

You might benefit from cupping if you’re dealing with:

  • Chronic muscle tension in the neck, back, or shoulders

  • Stubborn trigger points that just won’t let go

  • Tension headaches or jaw tightness

  • Postural strain from long hours at a desk

  • Slow recovery from workouts or injuries

  • Stress and nervous system overload

Cupping creates space for blood flow and lymphatic drainage, helping your body do what it does best—heal. And while it’s not a cure-all, it’s often the thing that helps everything else work better. We’re always happy to walk you through how it fits into your personalized treatment plan.

What’s Really Happening During a Cupping Session?

You’ve probably seen the circular marks left behind after cupping, and maybe even wondered what’s going on under the surface. While it may look a little dramatic, the process itself is incredibly gentle and grounded in sound physiology.

During your session, we’ll place small cups on specific areas of your body. Using light suction, these cups lift the skin slightly, helping to draw blood to tight or inflamed areas. That increased circulation kickstarts your body’s natural repair process; like flipping on a switch for recovery. At the same time, cupping can help clear out stagnation, loosen fascia, and calm the nervous system. Think of it as a reset button for sore muscles and sluggish tissues.

We tailor each session based on your goals and comfort level. Whether you’re an athlete in recovery or simply coping with everyday tension, cupping is one of the gentle but powerful tools we may use to support your healing path.

What to Expect During Your Session

Your comfort is our priority from the moment you walk in. At your first cupping session, we’ll begin with a thoughtful conversation about what’s bothering you; pain, tension, stress, or all of the above. There’s no rush and no guesswork; we take the time to understand your body and your goals.

During treatment, you’ll lie comfortably while we apply cups to targeted areas. Most people describe the sensation as a mild pulling or pressure; not painful, just different. Sessions typically last 20 to 30 minutes, and we’ll walk you through aftercare too. You might leave with circular marks, but don’t worry—they’re a normal part of the healing process and usually fade within a few days.

What to Expect from Jennifer Klein Physical Therapy:

As Physical Therapists, we work to restore function, improve mobility, and decrease pain with the goal of reestablishing a patient’s prior level of function.

We will evaluate, identify objective findings, make an assessment, & develop a treatment plan for each patient on an individual basis.  Objective testing may include some of the following categories: motion, strength, posture, reflexes, muscle tension, joint mobility, balance, agility, coordination, & special tests pertaining to your symptoms and or diagnosis.

We develop a treatment plan specific to addressing the pertinent objective findings. Each patient’s individual treatment plan is geared toward reaching specific goals that are set by the Physical Therapist & the patient together. The treatment plan may include traditional PT modalities, such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/cold therapy, as well as homeopathic approaches such as cupping & dry needling. Manual therapy such as joint or soft tissue mobilization may also be included. Exercises may be incorporated to address weakness, tightness, instability, lack of balance, & coordination; both traditional PT exercises and exercises utilizing Pilates equipment.

Booking Your Cupping Session

Ready to give your body the care it’s been asking for? Booking your cupping session is easy. You can schedule online, give us a call, or stop by the studio. We’ll find a time that works for you, answer any lingering questions, and make sure you feel prepared every step of the way.

Comprehensive Healing

Here’s something we don’t see talked about enough; cupping works best when it’s part of a bigger picture. That’s why we often blend it with other therapeutic approaches like physical therapy, Pilates-based movement, or breathwork. When we take this integrated approach, we’re not just chasing symptoms—we’re working with your whole system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cupping hurt?
Not at all. Most people describe it as a gentle pulling or lifting sensation. It’s more relaxing than you’d think.

Will I have bruises afterward?
You may see round marks that fade within a few days. They’re a sign of increased circulation—not bruising in the traditional sense.

How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your goals. Some feel relief after just one, while others benefit from a series.

Client Testimonials

I was struggling with acute back/hip/leg pain from an old injury. After my first consultation with Jennifer she said ‘we need to get you moving!’ Four months in and I have made more progress with both the Physical Therapy and Pilates than I could have believed or even hoped for. I am now moving with confidence, agility and strength, I’m pain free and attending Pilates classes three times a week without a struggle! Jennifer and her staff are so knowledgeable, understanding and are willing to take the time to dig deeper and really find out what’s the root cause of the problem. I can’t say enough about how great they all are.

Jennifer is awesome.  I walked away from knee surgery thanks to her advice and care.  Her intimate knowledge really gives you an insight on what you need to work on and to improve your overall physical condition. I started Jennifer’s Pilates class after my knee was out of the woods and have been doing it for a year now. I’ve never looked back. Her staff and other instructors also extend her excellent care and service.

Jennifer Klein Physical Therapy helped me to recover effectively from a leg issue I developed from running (groin soreness). She provided a series of needling sessions, a few Pilates classes at her establishment, and a list of stretches that helped loosen up my body enough to prevent recurrence. Amazing team and amazing service!

Jennifer Klein Physical Therapy has been an excellent facility for ‘what ails me.’ The staff is courteous, conscientious and hard working. Jennifer is extremely knowledgeable and experienced with integrating Pilates into Physical Therapy treatment for my low impact joint needs. She has presented me with therapeutic options for every pain related to my hip issue. Jennifer informed me that strengthening the core and upper body is essential to treating my problem area and she was right! After my initial session, I kid you not, my hip impingement issue was noticeably much better! When I began to experience what’s known as “referred pain” in the lower back, she had a solution for that, too-dry needling! I would definitely recommend Jennifer’s skills, talents, knowledge for what ails you!

Jennifer and her staff are wonderful. They are truly invested in each patient and are committed to helping him or her find relief. In addition to devising a personalized treatment plan, they are willing to accommodate your schedule to ensure that you can make each session.

I tore my hamstring and was devastated. I could not stay in the gym or mountain bike and I could barely walk normally. Within a few treatments of dry needling and cupping from Jennifer I could tell a difference. I am so happy I came here for my treatment. I am now in the process of transitioning out of hamstring rehab to working out. I decided to take Jennifer’s advice and take a few of her Pilates classes. That was another great decision. I think this is by far my favorite type of work out and my body is continuing to further rehab. If you are hurt or need to change up your exercise regimens, please go there. You will not regret it. I truly believe I received first class treatment as a patient and a person here. I cannot say enough great praises about Jennifer Klein Physical Therapy and Jennifer Klein herself.
